The aim of this brief was to create a packaging and branding design for a family owned range of boutique food products. It had to appear distinctly italian, organic, contemporary, and convey a sense of proud homemade quality. Sources of inspiration included 1950s Italian industrial and packaging design, in particular the classic italian stripes. To differentiate this product we kept its appearance minimal. We made a point to focus and frame the textures and shapes of the food itself through an opaque plastic, accompanied by a dark colour palate printed on a course recycled stock. The labels were designed as a framing system with interchangeable components which could be applied by hand. We wanted to create a product which was distinctly Italian, distinctly organic, yet humble in its execution.
